Android, launched by U.S. company Google has won nearly 50% of the smartphone market worldwide, dominating especially in the Asia-Pacific, according to a study by research firm Canalys.
Android, Google acquired in 2005 and launched on mobile in 2008, is used by almost all major manufacturers of mobile phones, including HTC, LG, Motorola and Samsung.
Android the platform used in 35 of the 56 countries included in the analysis Canalys, resulting in a 48% market share, research firm says.
Apple, which shipped 20.3 million iPhones, is second in the rankings with a market share of 19%.
